Dysian OVERVIEW – Flexible AND Overpowering

Dysian is  the boogeyman of draft. It has strong heroics, good commons and rares, a wealth of different strategies, and decent removal. It boasts the strongest Voltron threats in the format with Spring Dryad and Harbinger of Spring combined with the Nekrium and Uterra creature creation.

To top it all off, Dysian is astonishingly consistent. Many of its cards can play the roles of similar cards, so the deck’s strategy isn’t weakened by not drawing a specific card, as you typically have multiple. Grove Matriarch/Scatterspore Tiller, Group Meal/Twinstrength, Spring Dryad/Harbinger, Blight Walker/Shimmerfang Serpent, and so on. This consistency lets Dysian play the same game regardless of what the card components of the draft ended up being.

Raiders Unchained Draft Primer – Byzerak

BYZERAK OVERVIEW – STEADY AND DESTRUCTIVE

Byzerak isn’t a faction pair on many players’ radars. It doesn’t have any flashy cards or reliable synergies. The days of standout heroics like Zarox or Byzerak Frostmaiden are long gone. The mobility train is nowhere to be seen near the Abyssal Brute station. The good times of stomping face with Thranik Ambusher and Scourge Hydra have been put on hold. Byzerak doesn’t really stand out noticeably from the crowd.

But instead of being useless, Byzerak is simply solid. It does the same thing it has always done – kill everything that is on the board and try to win from there. Its tools of removal have been changed since the last format, but the core identity of the faction pair remains – death to all.

Onyxium Overview – Methodical and Ruthless

Onyxium is the faction pair that combines Alloyin and Nekrium. In this draft format, Onyxium is quite strong! It boasts a large assortment of powerful creatures, good spells, and crippling board control. It has the strongest late game out of any of the faction pairs.

Onyxium is flexible. It can play a slow game using removal and shrink to stall and try to drop large level 3 threats, or it can be more aggressive using Xithian Rotfiends and Ordnance Captains to gain board control. An average Onyxium deck tends to skew towards one of these strategies, but typically has both elements.

Raiders Unchained Draft Primer – Oratek

Oratek Overview – Explosive and Dynamic

Oratek is a difficult pairing to draft for many players. At a fundamental level, the two factions seem to be at odds with each other. Alloyin is thought of as the late game faction, leveling large unkillable robots while stalling the board with attack reduction effects. Tempys is the hyper aggressive faction, specializing in direct damage and playing oversized bodies to establish an early lead. In the current draft format, Oratek is at the bottom of TIC’s strength ratings, and not many people have argued with the placing. But AT decks can still be good, as long as you are conscious of what type of deck you are trying to build and are picking cards that create a cohesive game plan.
